Dear students of class 6 (2) You are requested to write in your exercise book and learn the chapter matter.
The word matter is used to cover all the substances and materials living and nonliving of which universe is composed of.
Composition of matter
Ancient Indian philosophers considered that all kinds of matter is made up of five elements - sky, air , fire, water and earth. An Indian philosopher , was perhaps the first to suggest that all forms of matter are composed of very small particles known as anu and that each anu may be made up of still smaller particles called paramanu.
Matter is composed of tiny particle known as atoms.
The number of particles in matter can be very large. For example , a small drop of water contains 10 21 particles of water in it.
John Dalton , an English chemist experimentally found that matter is made up of molecules.
Characteristics of particles of Matter
1) the particles of matter are very small in size.
2) They have spaces between them.
3) They are in constant motion.
4) They always attract each other.
The spacing between particles of a matter is called inter molecular space. The force of attraction between the constituent particle is called inter molecular force of attraction.
